Last post
Yes, indeedy, this is the last post I'm making on this particular blog, with no warning and no sign of a discontinuation. Much like most new dramas on free-to-air TV these days, really. I do kinda have a couple of reasons. Firstly, I'm thinking about starting up a new blog somewhere else. I've been with LJ for what I consider to be a while now. Secondly, I'm just ready to move on. You know, new stage of life and all that other bullshit. Although I'm not bullshitting about it. Also, I'm sick of using cyborgsnail as my username. I've had it ever since my MOSH days and it's getting kinda old. It's also a relic of the days when I was a huge comedy fan, etc etc. I'm not such a huge comedy fan anymore. I've gotten over the fact that I now have no more GNW recordings and I just erased my last Glass House tape last week to record Japanese Story. Music has long taken over for me as my main passion in life. Now I value more my dad's circa 60s music books than my Good News Week 2 book. Not to say that I don't like comedy anymore, I'll always enjoy it, but not as all-consumingly as I used to. Anyway, I don't like to be sentimental about these things. It's been fun, as it always is. -snail Current Mood: ClosureCurrent Music: Jebediah - First Time (kinda ironic, eh?) | | Friday, April 15th, 2005 | | 8:15 pm |

I had work today. And tomorrow I have to go in at 8:30 AM. Merda. (That's shit in Italian). Oh well. At least I'll be with the boy for most of the day, even if it is snatches of conversation from the other side of the dishie's bench. And I have my sundays back now. That's nice. Anyway onto the interesting news. Some guys are making a movie and their trailers and shit are in the parking lot next to the cafe (we're next to the beach). Apparently Susan Sarandon was in yesterday and she called again today but the kitchen was shut. Maybe she'll come tomorrow. The only famous person to have come in on my shift was some no-name neighbores/ho and away actor recognised by my soapie fan friend. -snail Current Mood: weary but alertCurrent Music: The Knack - My Sharona | | Wednesday, April 13th, 2005 | | 11:12 pm |
Oh Danny Bhoy...
Fucking greatest show I've ever been to at the Festival (admittedly, I haven't been to many over the years, but still). Danny ruled. I'm not gonne write a review here but my friend and I laughed till our faces hurt. Especially at the Brighton joke. And at the end of it he had a very sweet little story to tell. Aww. Anyway I gotta go. Got a 7 am train to catch tomorrow. *shudder* -snail Current Mood: comatose with laughterCurrent Music: The Beach Boys - Wouldn't it Be Nice | | Tuesday, April 12th, 2005 | | 11:48 pm |
My eyes are dim I cannot see...
Well, I have at least brought m specs with me. They are bright red see-through square ones. I'm long sighted and acquired this highly fashionable headgear this afternoon. OK so they're for a real purpose - I can actuall see the screen clearly for the first time in ages - but who am I to pass up such an opportunity to accesorise? Luckily they're only reading glasses so I don't have to wear them all the time. Anyway, first update in a while. With regards to the comedy festival, I'm seeing Danny Bhoy tomorrow night and Gamarjobat on Sunday. And I FINALLY met Naomi in the flesh for the first time yesterday! yay for us :) Oh, and my bro (baorin_lee) has just started an LJ account. Go check him out. He's a weird motherfucker. -snail Current Mood: glasses!!!Current Music: The Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love | | Sunday, March 13th, 2005 | | 1:17 am |

And in royal news, on Thursday I went down to Fed Square to see Mary and Fred, and was standing about 2 metres away from her. She was very beautiful.
I went to the Ballet last night with mum. It was bunch of excerpts from different ballets. Marc Cassidy was AWESOME. Such power, such grace - he did those gigantic leaps with the greatest of ease. It was incredible. and I walked straight past Paul Knobloch, the guy who taught my sister at a workshop. *she* says he wasn't very good looking, but clearly she has horrnedous taste in men because he was absolutely gorgeous in that delicate, floppy blonde-haired kinda way.

who said commuting was dull?
We got to take the bus today! Coming back from uni about 8:40, the train suddenly ground to a halt in between stations. At first I thought it was just because the trin was early so they were slowing it down, but then when it spent 5 minutes just sitting in Elsternwick station I started to realise something was amiss. Apparently one of the power lines had come down so we had to take the bus. Luckily it was close to my stop anyway, but I was afraid of missing the Glass House. Note to Mr Anderson: You're on national television. Wear some proper fucking shoes. Note to Producer: Remind Mr Anderson when you're actually taping, not rehearsing, so he can go put some proper fucking shoes on. Anyway. Tonight I went to a talk by David Suzuki, after winning a double pass and his new book from The Age (which I just happened upon by chance. Serendipity wasn't just a sappy movie after all!). He is a very inspirational talker, and I was astounded by some of the things he told us about the environment. I am never eating Aussie salmon again. Go to his foundation's website - www.davidsuzuki.org - and take the Nature Challenge, which is really not all that difficult. Just adhere to 3 or more steps out of the 10-step guideline. Use a fuel efficient car - tick, walk or use public transport - tick, eat a meat-less meal once a week - tick, buy locally grown and produced foods - tick. Four that I already do before reading this challenge, and a couple more shouldn't be so difficult. We buggered up our planet so we'd better fuckin do something about it, because we sure as hell haven't found another one like it yet. Oh, and I fell asleep in both my lectures today. How embarrassing, especially as it looked quite obvious. -snail Current Mood: greenieCurrent Music: Badly Drawn Boy - Something to Talk About | | 1:21 am |

First two days of school. uni. whatever.
I don't get why people look at me weird when I slip and say school instead of uni (which I admit has happened pretty much every time I've meant to say uni). I mean it's pretty much the same thing, except with casual clothes and free hours and beer. O week was fun but involved absolutely no alcohol consumption for me whatsoever. even at the O party I didn't drink because I didn't have the right ID. In what is one of the more bizarre regulations, they wouldn't except a Learner's permit, which I thought was fair enough because counting years can be a bitch, but then I read that they accepted valid passports (which I still need to sort out). Go figure. Anyway the comedy was quite entertaining and Regurgitator ruled as usual. I cam ever so close to getting the set list but some long-armed bastard grabbed it from the tips of my fingers. Work was fun the next day, my friend had 2 hours sleep and I fared slightly better on 4. Lucky it was quiet. Yesterday was my first day and I was (un)surprisingly apprehensive as I got on the train all by my lonesome. Luckily for me my friend was sitting there, having got on earlier, so I at least had someone to talk to. Unluckily for her she had a cold. How she managed to catch one on a 34 degree day is beyond me, although it may have been from one of the boys at work. Anyway we got to Flinders and I stuck my ticket in and did the customary little jump through the gate because I'm always afraid it'll snap shut on me. I look up and my friend who's been ahead of me is not there. Now there are not a whole lot of places one can disappear to there, unless you're a bloody fast runner and can get to the tram stop. She had a cold so I assumed that wasn't the case, and I turned around to see her standing pitifully at the gate because she hadn't validated her ticket and couldn't get out. Luckily she escaped the $150 fine, probably because she looked and sounded pathetic. Anyway my first class was Beginner's Italian, and I was unpleasantly surprised to see a boy from the local boy's grammar (yes, THAT one) in my tute, but didn't have to talk to him. yay. I thought I'd severed all ties with that school! Other than that however, Italian was molto bene. Then came the interminable 4 hour wait in between classes. I've learnt that every monday there's a concert at the music con which will take an hour, and other than that I expect to be very up to date with Italian and to eat too many doughnuts. Finally 4:15 rolled around and I schlepped off to the Medical building of all places for a history video/lecture. Instead of choosing a uni student to sit next to I somehow got a schoolkid doing enhancement. I should've been suspicious of the shirt and pants in the heat but in my exhaustion I assumed he was probably a Law student. After classes however the real fun began. I'm now a member of the Engineering Music Society, or EMS. I managed to find rehearsals easily enough by following my ears (that was another surprise, that I haven't been getting lost). I learnt that I really need to practice if I want to stop sounding like a first-grader skinning a cat, but the pub night was very fun. S was in her first ever boat-race ad L and I played doubles pool on the condition that whoever lost without sinking a ball had to run around the table with their tops off. L sunk a ball quite quickly, then I had about 4 turns without sinking anything. The boys were getting closer and closer to winning and I still didn't sink anything, and they noticed that I stopped talking tough and started looking very quiet, when I finally sunk a ball and nearly wept in relief. And then had fun singing 'no titties for you! no titties for you!' yes, all the hallmarks of a highly mature first-year. Today was much the same except without the hours of waiting or the pub night. Everythings still chaotic and I'm having a nightmare trying to find my textbooks, let alone buy them, and the prices are unimaginable high. Surely it doesn't cost $150 to publish and import one lousy Italian textbook and lab manual. It's been quite enjoyable so far. I'm just hoping the rest is nearly as good. -snail Current Mood: tiredCurrent Music: Regurgitator - are u being served? | | Monday, February 14th, 2005 | | 10:13 am |
I have tingly feet
Yesterday was the St Kilda Festival, although I didn't get to go until after I finished work at 6, which was a pain in the ass, because by the time I walked to my boyfriend's place, then to the train station, then from Nepean Hwy to St Kilda, my feet were already non-existent, and all I had left were bleeding stumps. Ok, that's a lie. I still had (albeit very sore) feet, and was able to groove around to the Cat Empire, then to mosey on up to Acland st to grab dinner. Hooray for McDonalds at times like these! We got there pretty late so it was already finishing up by the time we'd wandered up and down Acland St. Getting home involved more walking because our tram took a left at Chapel St, which I really should have registered when people said it. Anyway today my feet still hurt. Happy Valentine's Day. -snail Current Mood: sleepyCurrent Music: The Cat Empire - The Rhythm | | Saturday, February 5th, 2005 | | 10:23 pm |
This is me we're talkin about...
Extraversion Some people like lots of stimulation; they want people around them, activity and excitement, whilst others prefer to be able to focus on things in a calm and quiet environment. Most people prefer a blend of the two extremes and your answers suggest that you are quite comfortable in either situation. You can probably cope with things being a bit hectic or a bit quiet but, like most people, you may find extremes in either direction uncomfortable or annoying. Confidence Some people make decisions very easily and tend not to worry about them before or afterwards while, at the other extreme, some people are so careful and cautious that the decisions never get made! Taking a cautious approach can be a good thing (do you want to fly with a pilot that is so free from worry and concern that she never checks her controls and instruments and doesn't bother to communicate with air-traffic control?) and you seem to have described yourself as someone who does tend to be quite cautious and careful. This can be very important in detailed work or areas were mistakes can have a major cost although you may find yourself avoiding risks and many cautious people wish they were bolder. Openness While some people like experimenting with new things and ideas, others prefer traditional methods and taking a very practical approach to problems. Your answers suggest that you like to balance a willingness to try new things with making sure you don't scrap an existing approach that works just because it has been around for a while. Like most people you may not enjoy constant change and uncertainty or an environment where nothing develops from year to year, but your preparedness to see the merits of new and old alike can be helpful. Agreeableness Most people want to be able to get on with others but to some it is the most important thing in the world, whilst others are quite happy to upset someone else if it means that things get done. Your answers suggest that getting on with people is very important to you, that you may well be eager to help others and avoid disagreements, perhaps sometimes even when you think you should be firmer with them. Conscientiousness Some people like everything to be well planned, tidy and organised, whilst others prefer to deal with things as they come up and appear to work in absolute chaos. Your answers suggest that you don't like having things too structured or being tied down and you can cope quite well without having to have everything organised. This may make it hard to find things at times or for colleagues to know where you are or what you are doing, but you probably find coping with the unexpected (the things your colleagues didn't plan for!) easier than many. You know what? I reckon that sounds like me :) hurrah for the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/mind/surveys/whatamilike/index.shtml-jebby Current Mood: happyCurrent Music: Van Morrison - Gloria | | Friday, February 4th, 2005 | | 6:52 pm |
Of dying birds and supernatural beings
Last night mum and I decided to take a different route to our usual one when we took the dogs for a walk. Apparently the houses on this alternate route were rather attractive, and we're looking for a colour to paint our house. We turned off our main street and about 20 metres past the corner I saw a bird sitting quite still on the nature strip. It didn't even react when we walked past with the dogs, so at first I thought it was dead. However, on further inspection it appeared to be breathing somehwat laboriously, so my mum retreated to a safe distance with the dogs while I went to see if it was hurt. On the side facing us it looked fine, apart from its eye being half closed, and that breathing, which is never a good sign in any animal. Walking around to the other side I could see why it hadn't moved. A great bloody gash extended back from its right eye, and its right leg looked broken. I stepped back to consider my options. I didn't really want to leave it sitting there for a cat to get so I took a plastic bag and tried to pick it up. The bird still had some life left in it and spread its wings intimidatingly, warning me off touching it. Apparently exhausted by the effort, it fell onto the side, unable to move. I stood there a little longer, but we had to move on, and I left it lying on the nature strip. I only hope that it died quickly. On a different note, the first episode of Lost was on last night, and I found it rather entertaining, although they definitely wouldn't show it on a plane. It seems now that preparations for my trip are in full swing, I keep seeing television shows where people get mugged, raped and murdered and where planes crash in horrifyingly destructive ways. I only hope it doesn't put me off. That unknown monster was pretty scary. -snail Current Mood: contemplativeCurrent Music: Thirsty Merc - Hope | | Saturday, January 29th, 2005 | | 6:26 pm |
Hurrah for Melbourne weather
I got the day off work today because of the rain. Apparently it was rather quiet and so they let me off even thought I was actually meant to go in. So I finally cleaned my room today and it's all looking good, and sang a lot at the top of my voice. Muse songs are all in the middle of my range so they're really fun to belt out, and also stuff by Thirsty Merc, although sometimes it can get a little low. I've decided I must learn Hysteria by Muse on bass. I don't care that it sounds bloody difficult, I just have to do it. I'm sure it's not as hard as it sounds, because it's just straight timing. It's probably just tiring to play. So after cleaning my room and singing I decided to read and ended up staring at the ceiling for about 5 minutes then falling asleep. That was nice. I'm enjoying the luxury of sleeping whenever I want while I can still afford to do it. Not much else to tell, except that yesterday's Hornblower marathon was extremely enjoyable, except we didn't get throught the whole lot. We got up to the third series, then the tennis came on. And now for something completely different
I just thought I would say this, considering that it was my intention to write this the whole time. I got sidetracked a little. You know that thing where you go to another room to get something then when you get to the room you forgot what it was that you wanted to get? That happens to me, both in the real world and on the interweb. Except, it's with sites, not rooms. yeah. Anyway. What I was really meaning to say and what I really am going to say now after meaning to say it all along, is that on Tuesday I enrolled at The University of Melbourne (Which, if you ask me, is such a poncy name. Melbourne University sounds so much more modern and concise. Well, it is more concise. But I digress). My subjects are: -History of the world since World War Two (It seemed like a natural progression from History of WWII from last year) -Criminology: Cops, Courts, Correction and Crime (not necessarily in that order, but the alliteration thing was clever. And daggy.) -Psychology: something to do with psychology -Beginners Italian (Which I am sooooo excited - no, wait, eccitato - about) whee -snail Current Mood: mellowCurrent Music: Missy Higgins - The Special Two | | 8:47 pm |
Straya Day
Australia Day (or 'Straya day' as it's pronounced) was hot. It was the type of day where you make travel programs on the beach to broadcast in England and make all the Poms jealous with their cold grey winters. Unfortunately, I was unable to make the most of the beach-going weather as I had more important matters, namely work, taking up my time. For once the kitchen at work was actually hotter than the rest of the place, and I felt kind of sorry for the chefs and dishies. But then again they were getting an uninterrupted broadcast of the Triple J Hottest 100, and they got to make more trips to the coolroom. While it was full when I arrived, by early afternoon they'd all buggered off to the beach or to see Alicia Molik play Lindsay Davenport in the tennis. A morgue would've been livelier. I think it was the heat. I was sent home rather early, as it seemed foolish to have more staff than customers. Some friends of mine were there so I went back with them to watch the first episode of Hornblower, in preparation for our marathon tomorrow, which I am bloody excited about. Of course we tuned into the tennis and followed in that grand Aussie tradition of becoming experts in a sport that none of us played, and were all a little upset that Molik lost, however valiantly, but it was nothing that a handsome young middy in a bicorne couldn't fix. I didn't bother to see the end of the Hewitt match last night, but the shouts from the livingroom downstairs were commentary enough. Today was another quiet day at work, judging by the fact that I spent an hour making lolly bags and was sent home after a couple of hours. I did get a free meal out of it though, and the chicken pides are always rather good. I also got paid yesterday, and was quite excited to see my balance. I get paid $10.85 an hour so it wasn't exactly a princely sum, but it's satisfying to see I'm making progress. That should just about cover the accommodation in the US, which is a relief. Well, it's 10 past 9 and I haven't had dinner. Might go for a cuppa tea and a bikkie. -snail PS I correctly picked the number one song in the Hottest 100, again.
